Fireplace Chimney Dampers
Fireplace Chimney Dampers
A fireplace chimney damper is usually located directly on top of the fireplace under the throat. Other types of dampers are located at the top of the flu at the top of the chimney. These top dampers have a long rope which can be pulled to open or close the damper door at the top of the chimney. Chimney dampers directly on top of the fireplace have an arm which is used to open or close the damper door. It is important to have a damper on the fireplace because during cold weather, the damper door can be closed so not to let out heat from the home. Fireplace chimney dampers located at the top of the chimney are usually made from galvanized steel. The dampers located directly on top of the fireplace are usually made from cast iron.
